Welcome to the Huthost knowledgebase! In this guide, you’ll learn how to launch a brand-new Minecraft server using our powerful Pterodactyl panel. Whether you’re a seasoned admin or just starting out, this step-by-step walkthrough covers everything from initial setup to listing your server on our partner site, mclist.gg, to help you attract more players.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • A Huthost account and an active Minecraft server plan.

  • Login credentials for the Pterodactyl panel (URL and email/password).

  • A valid Minecraft server jar version (e.g., vanilla, Spigot, Paper).

  • Optional: An FTP client (like FileZilla) if you need to upload custom plugins or mods.

If you haven’t signed up yet, head over to Huthost.net to choose the perfect plan for your community.

1. Accessing the Pterodactyl Panel

  1. Log in to your panel at https://panel.huthost.net.

  2. On the Dashboard, click “Servers” in the sidebar.

  3. Select “Create New Server”.

2. Configuring Your Server

Fill in the required fields:

Field Description
Name Choose a memorable name for your server (e.g., “SurvivalWorld”).
Owner Set to your user or another panel user who will manage the server.
Egg Select the Minecraft flavor: Vanilla, Spigot, Paper, or other custom eggs.
Version Pick the desired Minecraft version (e.g., 1.20.1).
Docker Image Leave default unless you have specific needs (e.g., quay.io/pterodactyl/core:java).
Memory Allocate enough RAM (2 GB+ recommended for small communities).
Disk Space Ensure at least 5 GB for plugins, mods, and world data.
CPU Assign CPU shares; more players = higher shares.
Startup Command Should default to something like: java -Xms1024M -Xmx{{SERVER_MEMORY}}M -jar server.jar nogui.

Click “Create Server” when you’ve filled out all details.

3. Initial Startup & Console

  1. On your new server’s page, click “Startup” in the sidebar.

  2. Confirm your Startup Parameters are correct.

  3. Click the “Start” button at the top.

    • The Console window will display logs.

    • Look for Done (X.XXXs)! For help, type "help" – this indicates a successful launch.

4. Uploading Plugins or Mods (Optional)

If you want to customize your server:

  1. Click “SFTP File Management” in the sidebar.

  2. Use the provided credentials to connect via FTP (e.g., FileZilla).

    Host: sftp.huthost.net Port: 2022 Username: <your-panel-username> Password: <your-panel-password>
  3. Navigate to /server/plugins (for Spigot/Paper) or /mods (for Forge).

  4. Drag and drop your .jar files.

  5. Restart your server from the panel.

5. Managing Your Server Settings

  • Server.properties: Click “Configuration”“server.properties” to adjust gameplay settings like game mode, difficulty, max players, and more.

  • Whitelist: Use “Configuration”“whitelist.json” to restrict access to approved players.

  • Backups: Toggle “Automatic Backups” under the “Settings” tab to safeguard your world data.

6. Inviting Players & Promoting Your Server

Once your server is running smoothly, it’s time to build your community:

  1. Share your IP: Find it in the “Network” tab (e.g., play.yourdomain.com:25565).

  2. List on mclist.gg (our official partner):

    • Visit mclist.gg and register if you haven’t already.

    • Create a new server listing with your IP, description, and attractive banner.

    • Encourage players to vote daily to keep your server high on the charts!

“Listing on mclist.gg can multiply your player count by exposing your server to thousands of Minecraft enthusiasts!”

  3. Social Media & Discord: Set up a Discord server and social channels to engage with your community.

7. Troubleshooting & Tips

Issue Solution
Server Won’t Start Check Java version in Startup; ensure server.jar filename matches your command.
Low Performance Increase memory or CPU shares; remove heavy mods; optimize your bukkit.yml/spigot.yml.
Port Conflicts Ensure only one server per port; change server-port= in server.properties.
Cannot Connect Verify your firewall allows port 25565; ensure SRV records if using a custom domain.

8. Next Steps and Resources

  • Dive deeper with our Pterodactyl panel docs at docs.huthost.net.

  • Explore advanced optimization with Papermc or GeyserMC.

  • Keep your players engaged: run events, giveaways, and seasonal builds.
